Online Kettle

Dec 03, 2008

In an effort to help raise money, the Salvation Army has an online Kettle system. It's very simple to setup and they even provide a widget that you can add to your blog, etc. I did this this last year and it worked fairly well. So this year, I created a new kettle and added it to my blog and to the FusionLink site.

Naturally, I would like for people to donate. And if you have a few free minutes go ahead and setup your own kettle for your blog or site. It's been a rough year for many and it appears next year will not be much better. If you have ever been through a rough patch in your life, you can certainly understand that the charities, such as the Salvation Army, Red Cross and many others, provide a vital service.

Also, just to note, I pick my charities very carefully. Back when I was in graduate school, I did research in nonprofit charities and found many were very wasteful. Sometimes only a few cents of each dollar would actually make it to a person in need. The rest would get wasted by the charity. The Salvation Army is one of the best performing charities. The Red Cross is also typically rated high. It's important to give back but it's even more important to be responsible about it and to make sure that the charity is running properly.
